Services

Miami Valley Music Therapy (MVMT) travels to you to provide Assessments, Treatment, Consultation, and Adaptive Lessons. Board Certified Music Therapists deliver services in home, school, and facility settings to individuals of all ages with a variety of needs. Sessions ideally occur at least once weekly.

  • Assessment:
Home based assessments offer an evaluation of an individual's strengths, needs, and responses to music. Following the assessment sessions, specific objectives will be written concerning the areas of need in which music therapy could provide assistance. MVMT therapists travel to many homes in the Dayton and Springfield areas, bringing all equipment and instruments needed.

School based assessments focus on a criterion referenced evaluation. In this case, the student must qualify to receive music therapy as a related service on his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Miami Valley Music Therapy presently serves four school districts in Montgomery and Greene counties. Music therapy can function on the IEP to assist many students including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Facility based assessments can be adapted in focus to take into consideration the unique needs of each agency. Often, small group sessions are requested by facilities interested in providing their students, clients, or residents with music therapy enrichment opportunities. Currently, Miami Valley Music Therapy provides these services to preschools for students with special needs, residential facilities for the medically fragile, day programs for adults with developmental disabilities, and care centers containing nursing and Alzheimer units.

  • Treatment:
Treatment is recommended for the client who has shown not only enjoyment and interest in music, but also the capability to use music therapy for developmental and educational growth. Detailed information about the professional practice of music therapy is also delivered. Miami Valley Music Therapy provides presentations to parent groups, inservices for staff, and on-site visits to specific classrooms and students identified to benefit from ongoing consultation services.
